The announcement by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana marks a watershed in British politics. Majority members have been involved in the discussions to get to this point and it's heartening to see the huge demand for a new
party with a new approach to politics, based on building community power from the grassroots up.
Britain should be run in the interests of the people who do the work, including those doing unpaid work, those unable to work and those retired after a lifetime of work. It's written into Majority's constitution that we will build alliances rooted in radical democracy. We will take a full part in building this democratic movement. It's about time we had politicians who keep their promises and serve us, rather than their careers and donors.
Let's have public services that serve the public good, not private profit. Let's have water, energy, mail and transport where surpluses are invested in lower bills rather than higher dividends. Let's build a country that looks after our planet.
Let's have the courage to both seek peace and stand up to oppression and genocide. Let's have a politics based on true patriotism - building a country that provides security, freedom and opportunity for everyone - black or white, gay or straight, old or young, to live the life they choose.
We're already building power in the North East and beyond, and can feel the appetite for change.
Bring it on!
